Be Scam Smart – Recognize the Red Flags

Gift Card Scam

Is someone calling you and asking for a gift card to pay them? It’s a scam. Don’t send them gift cards. No legitimate company or agency will ask for gift cards as payment. Report the scam immediately.

Grandkid Scam

If you receive a call from a grandchild or family member asking for money, check the number. Scammers impersonate family members to extort money. Hang up and call your grandchild or family member directly.

Romance Scam

If someone contacts you on social media or a dating website and they appear interested in knowing you, stop! You may be the target of a romance scam. Scammers utilize numerous tactics, including impersonating that special someone, with the result of you sending them money. Never send money or share financial/personal information with someone you haven’t met in person

You’ve Won Scam

Have you received a call congratulating you on winning a lottery, prize, or sweepstakes? It is more than likely that the call is a scam. Scammers utilize this tactic to get ahold of debit card and account information. Don’t pay any fees to claim a prize.

IRS Imposter Scam

Receiving threatening calls from the IRS with threats of suing, arrest, deportation, or revoking your license if you don’t pay them? Does the caller ID show the Washington, DC, area? It’s not the IRS. The IRS will not ask for a prepaid gift card or wire transfer. The IRS does not call to demand immediate payment or threaten you. It’s a scam!

Don’t click the link! Scammers create a fake email with the intention of recipient preforming an action that could compromise their information. See a suspicious email? Don’t open it. Don’t click links or download attachments from unknown senders.

Fraud Alerts FAQs

If the fraud department does not receive a response from you, your debit card will continue to be blocked. Once the card is blocked it is unusable. You will need to contact with the fraud department or your local branch.

  1. Your debit card is permanently closed.
  2. You will be contacted by a fraud specialist and review posted transactions on your account for unauthorized activity.
  3. A dispute will be filled on your behalf to start the process of getting your money back, if needed.
  4. You will need to either call your local branch and request a new card be mailed to your or visit your local branch to pick up your new card.
  5. If a dispute was created for you, you will need to watch either your email or mail for notifications about the progress of the dispute.
  1. If you have the digital banking, status your card as stolen.
  2. If you don’t have digital banking , you can call our dispute team at 833-288-1126 or contact your local branch.
  3. Once you have a dispute started you will need to get a new card. You can either call your local branch and request a new card be mailed to your or visit your local branch to pick up your new card.
  4. Watch either your email or mail for notifications about the progress of the dispute.
